Just had a talk with supervisor at Smithpoint the reason you cant go past cut 2 is that there is a plover nest that has hatched and is very close to cut 2.how close i dont know but if one of those chicks ends up dead from being run over then the FEDS will close the entire beach.

Deep Deep Hake/Tile Exploratory Trip
Capt Steven Sr. reports that despite “Mother Nature” we pushed on regardless with 20-25mph winds. We were excited to see on the first drift that fish were biting and rods were bending! We worked the area all day with excellent results. We had tile, hake, pollack and barrel fish. Cousin, Don Briand was high hook! On Day 2 the weather subsided and we headed to deep water. It was extremely good with catches of hake and tile. There were at least a dozen hake over 20lbs. The first place Tile pool winner was Paul Ryan from Middletown, NY with a 25.7 lb fish. The first place Hake pool was a tie with Roy Bess from NYC and Paul Ryan! They were 24.1 lbs. The first place Edible pool winner was Sammy Sin from Brooklyn, NY with a 21.3 lb Barrel Fish.
Willie K’s Bait and Tackle is in the very heart of Bay Shore, just a block north of Main Street off 5th Avenue (headed south, hang a right onto Ackerson), and is the South Shore’s go to fishing headquarters for many. A quick and favorite stop for savvy fishermen on their way southbound down the Robert Moses Causeway to the Captree Boats and all points south and west, for surfcasters, private boats and shore anglers along Robert Moses, the State Boat Channel, Fire Island Inlet, and all points west along Ocean Parkway, the Town Beaches and west along Jones Beach, Willie K’s is a family business in its 2nd generation, run by Kurt and Toshiko Koncelik, and they are always in tune with the entire South Shore scene as well as the rest of the Island. Run by avid fishermen FOR fishermen, Willie K’s has it all…
